Spring Cleaning Your Work Life

Desk

Spring is finally here! The temperatures are rising, the birds are chirping, and you most likely are in the process of spring-cleaning your home. While spring-cleaning may be a dreaded task for many, it is such a refreshing feeling once you have decluttered your home. But why stop there? At Evans Reporting, we think that the beginning of this season is an ideal time for you to “spring clean your professional life” too.

  • Get organized. Do you have a stack of papers rapidly growing on your desk? Or, maybe you work on the go, and your inbox is overflowing with old emails. While you may think that you work best with a messy desk, taking the time to organize your office or workspace can drastically increase your efficiency. You will not only be left with a new and improved space, but you will have such peace of mind once you know that everything is in its place.
  • Set new goals. Did your professional goals get lost in the multitude of New Year resolutions? With the change of the season, now is the perfect time to reevaluate your career, find ways to improve your work ethic, and set goals that are realistic for you to achieve. Do you want a promotion? Maybe you want to learn a new skill, or acquire a new client. Write it all out, and place that list somewhere you will see daily to remind you of what you want to accomplish.
  • Get up and move. While this might sound counterproductive to your work, you should set aside time each work day to walk around the office or to take a brief walk around the block. Studies have found that brief periods of exercise can actually increase your productivity. Movement can boost your energy levels, causing you to return to your desk feeling refreshed and ready to work.
  • Bring a healthy lunch each day. Take the time each morning or the night before to prepare a nutritious lunch to take with you to work. This will prevent you from grabbing fast food down the street, mindlessly snacking throughout the day, or even skipping lunch altogether. It may take a while to get used to packing your lunch each and everyday, but trust us, your mind, body, and wallet will thank you for this healthy habit!

These are just a few of the many ways that you can improve your work life and further your career.
